Project Overview

On a national scale, the Center also provides leadership for the Hospitality and Disability initiative, which promotes accessibility and equal opportunity for people with disabilities in restaurants, hotels and other hospitality establishments. In 2021, the Center enlisted Concepts Communications to help update and amplify this initiative, and to develop and distribute multi-media projects in support of its overall work.

Delivering on “At Your Service”

To start, Concepts Communications worked with the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center to refresh its national Hospitality and Disability initiative with a new logo and additional materials for hotel front-desk staff. In addition, Concepts Communications developed a new section for the Center’s popular Accessible Meetings, Events and Conferences Guide. Reflecting the significant increase in online events as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this new section outlines strategies for ensuring full inclusion of people with disabilities in virtual meetings and conferences, from pre-event planning to event execution to post-event follow up. Concepts Communications also developed a one-page fact sheet synthesizing this information.

“The Practical Employer and the ADA: Successful Hiring Video” Series

Concepts Communications also produced three videos for the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center, all targeted at employers and focused on increasing accessibility during the recruiting and hiring processes: “How to Write Good Job Descriptions,” “How to Make Sure Your Job Recruitment Activities are Accessible and Inclusive,” and “Job Applications and Interviews: How to Make Sure Your Process is Accessible.” Each of these captioned, audio introduced videos uses photographs and video footage of diverse people with disabilities working in a variety of environments to highlight important employer responsibilities under the ADA.

Putting the Center on the Airwaves

The Mid-Atlantic ADA Center also enlisted Concepts Communications to take its message on the airwaves. This entailed drafting and professionally recording 15- and 30-second radio public service announcements (PSAs) and distributing them to stations in the six-state region the Center serves: Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The spot was distributed in late September 2021.
