Clear2Connect Coalition

Protecting Captioned Telephone Technology & Video Relay Service

The Clear2Connect Coalition is a group of organizations from across the U.S. working together to protect the right for Americans with hearing loss to communicate via Internet Protocol Captioned Telephone Service (IP CTS), also known as captioned telephone services and Video Relay Service (VRS). The organizations that make up the coalition include veterans service organizations, aging organizations and organizations that represent people with disabilities. Concepts Communications began working on the project in 2019, initially assisting with building the coalition before becoming the lead communications firm on the project.

Project Overview

Concepts Communications outreach efforts for the Clear2Connect Coalition focuses in part on educating the public about captioned telephone service and video relay service through media connections.  Examples of these outreach efforts include articles published in Stars and Stripes and The Hill which Concepts Communications helped draft, that highlight coalition concerns about IP CTS and VRS in respective veteran and disability communities.

Guiding Advocacy

Concepts Communications aids in organizing various advocacy events such as the Clear2Connect Coalition Briefing on Capitol Hill, which featured key speakers from within the coalition, IP CTS users and a member of Congress. For these events, Concepts Communications handles all logistics, develops agendas, secures speakers and manages attendee list and follow up to keep interested parties engaged on the issue.

Concepts Communications also is tasked with identifying and connecting with various community stakeholders. Concepts Communications uses its expertise in disability and veteran space, to educate interested organizations on issues related to caption telephone service. The overarching goal is to recruit them as members of the Clear2Connect Coalition.

Concepts Communications redesigned the Clear2Connect Coalition website and grew the Clear2Connect Coalition social media following significantly in a short period of time.
